At our 2010 Boarding Camps goalies will experience the time of there
life. The goaltending position in ice hockey is the most unique
and pressure-packed in sports. Success demands proper coaching and
support from a team of dedicated coaches committed to player development.
We even offer a girl’s-only goalie camp to ensure our female
netminders get the tailored attention and instruction they need
to excel.
While our goalie camps run in synch with
RB Hockey's position-player camps, goalies will be separated into
their own groups with dedicated goalie instructors who not only
explain but also demonstrate key skills. Every one of our top-notch
coaches has played at the collegiate or professional level and can
offer our campers unique insight into the position, as well as the
latest instructional techniques from around the world.
Throughout the week, each goalie will
be involved with strength training, speed training, balance work,
core training, agility training, plyometrics, stretching techniques
and much more as well as opportunities to visit the National
Fitness gym (located below the dormitories).
On top of that, each goalie will receive daily breakdowns of the
drills which will concentrate on:
positional breakdown for forwards and defensemen
situational "chalk talk" on how to approach and react
to game situation
technique enhancement
working with defensemen
handling power plays
handling penalty kills
We pride ourselves in producing a fun, competitive
and challenging, and instructive hockey camp. We are so
confident in our program and staff that we offer 100% money back
guarantee if your child does not enjoy our camp. Our staff
is represented by all levels of hockey from College, Junior A, High
School coaches, current and former Pros.
We aim to help each goaltender reach his or
her potential between the pipes. To do so, following the first session
we divide campers by ability level, not age, so each player can
learn at a pace that promotes performance gains.
Groups feature a small, 3:1 camper-to-coach ratio and are led by
instructors fully involved in the practice. In fact, our guys wear
their equipment so they can both demonstrate proper method as well
as quickly correct campers mid-stride, a technique proven to expedite
skill acquisition. Daily chalk talk and video reviews will help
players refine their positioning, and technique to enhance their
arsenal of skills.
Goaltenders will receive personal instruction from Patrick and
his team of experienced coaches, all of whom have played pro or
college hockey. At our camps, which offer a low coach-to-student
ratio, every instructor is on-ice in full equipment. Our coaches
don’t stand passively along the boards shouting instructions;
rather they get into the net and show your player how things should
be done. By fully participating in every skill session our coaches
can quickly correct campers mid-stride, a technique proven to expedite
skill acquisition.
At RB Goalie, we’re about building relationships as well
as players. That’s why all participants in our camps become
part of our extended family. If you ever have a question or concern
feel free to contact RB Goalie owner Rob Barletta directly.
In addition to goalie-specific on-ice drills, campers will also
participate in Daily chalk talks, video reviews, and in an off-ice
conditioning program tailored to the demands of the position. Dynamic
warm-ups, sprints, agility exercises, plyometrics and games will
be included to develop strength and foster team building.
Located
in front of the arena on Route 1 in Walpole, the facility boasts a
common area with plush leather couches, a giant LCD flat screen with
satellite TV used for off-ice instruction. It also has a Ping-Pong
table, Air Hockey table, Xbox, multiple Wii's, Guitar Hero and
a basketball hoop.
Other amenities include a kitchen complete
with a stove, full-size refrigerator, toaster, blender and microwave
oven. Spread out across the entire third floor of the facility are
spacious dorm rooms, each equipped with central air conditioning
as well as a private bathroom. A laundry room is also available.
As a facility built to host and train world-class athletes, the
building is highly secure. Not only is a key or key code required
for entry, but a key card is needed to operate the elevator that
accesses the third floor sleeping rooms. To further ensure the safety
of our players, 24-hour closed-circuit surveillance cameras monitor
every entrance and exit of the facility.
After
the hard work put forth by the skaters, we believe they deserve
to be rewarded with a little bit of fun time. This is why we have
searched our area for the best attractions in New England to be
added to the already best boarding camps. We will be going Mini
Golfing and Go Karting located on Rt. 1 in Walpole, along
with an optional* full day Six Flags New England trip, which
is scheduled for Wednesdays. Later in the week is pizza night, which
will be enjoyed with movies and video games and we can never forget
the wildly popular pool party and cook out!
Please Note: If you do not wish to attend the
Six Flags Trip, you have two options available:
Option 1: Skip the Six Flag trip and take the
day off. Subtract $55 from the cost of your camp. Option 2: Skip the Six Flag trip and participate
in an additional day of on-ice drills. Add $100 to your camp.

This
camp is one of the player’s favorite! We teach the game
of hockey. Our “Game Situation” drills will be
run in conjunction with RB Hockey’s Game situational
camp. We will focus on developing focus on building recognition
of plays before and as they are developing as well as how
to deal and cope with situations as they arise. More time
will be spent on read and react training rather than teaching
skills. This camp is not of the fant of heart. These drills
will help each player understand the game and teach reaction
with confidence. Minimum of 5 hours of ice each day and 1
hour class room talk.
WHATS COVERED:
Proper angles, squareness to the shooter, and when to not
be square. 2v1, 3v2, breakaways and power plays all will be
covered, as will puck handling and setting pucks up for defensemen
to make it as easy as possible for them to be able to break
out.
These drills will help each player understand their specific
position and teach reaction with confidence. During the on
ice and one-hour classroom talks each day, we’ll cover
reading plays, and how to see things develop before they do.
Goaltending is a very mental position, and we will expose
our goalies to how the pro’s are being taught to read
and react to plays before they become dangerous.

WHAT
TO EXPECT: Goalie-specific power skating
Skating, edge control, balance, and agility are paramount
to in-net success. Gone are the days when goalies were simply
walls with little need for skating excellence. Today, the
best goalies combine exceptional skating ability, gymnastic
flexibility, and cat-like agility. To teach critical skating
skills fundamental to the position, we run our goalies though
a variety of increasingly challenging power skating drills
that help them learn to use their feet most effectively.
Angles
We’ll teach you both where and how to stand in the net.
We’ll show you how squaring up to the shooter increases
your presence and may intimidate oncoming shooters.
Butterfly
RB Hockey teaches a combination butterfly style that pairs
the wide stance of the Finnish style with the low hand position
of the Quebec style for maximum effectiveness. Through the
use of these techniques, goalies will learn to better balance
themselves both while standing and while in the butterfly.
They’ll also be better positioned to make a second save
when necessary.
Low plays
Most goals are scored in tight with quick passes to the slot,
wraparounds and similar maneuvers. To help you cut down on
these scoring chances in the danger zone, we’ll show
you how to properly remain low and square with a deep knee
bend.
